expatMoving to a new city, or an unknown environment, can be quite a challenge. Especially for expats, who are moving to a place for a period of time, might find it difficult to connect with people from different background. Fortunately, the internet has made it extremely easy to find people at a regional level, and meet them.

One of these platforms, aiming specifically at foreigners and expats, is Internations. Internations is a social platform, much like LinkedIn, and other available social platforms, allowing users to create a profile. The profile typically exists of basic information, work experience, background information, hobbies and other, more personal, information. Additionally, users can take part in many of the discussion forums, or they can read one of the many country and city guides available on the website.

However, perhaps the most useful and best feature of the platform, is that it represents communities all over the world, who actually meet physically regularly. Users can select a community, or city they are currently residing, and then browse all upcoming events in that city, or the region. Usually, a region is moderated by a so-called ambassador, who is in charge of representing a specific region.

But generally, events can be planned by anyone, and they can include cultural events, or meetups in a fancy location, a bar, club, or restaurant perhaps. These Internations communities exists all over the world, and expanding very fast. Users can then simply register for an event, and also take a look at the other attendees. This gives them opportunity to spot people they would like to meet, perhaps due to similar backgrounds, or professional reasons.

Internations is a good mixture between a social and business platform, with a special emphasis on expats. It makes a serious impression, and navigation through the site is easy. Furthermore, its basic features are available free of charge, such as basic registration, messaging services, and registering for events. Premium services are available at an additional cost.
